KANSAS CITY - Wichita Police say a 33-year-old man has been arrested for first-degree murder in the death of his two-year-old stepson.

On Thursday, Police responded to Wesley Medical Center after the boy was brought to the hospital with severe injuries after a reported fall.

The investigation revealed the injuries suffered by the child were inconsistent with the facts provided by the stepfather, who was caring for the boy at the time he was injured. The stepfather was arrested Thursday for aggravated battery and child abuse.

The boy, identified by Police as John Landon Delano, passed away Saturday morning from his injuries. The stepfather was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder.

Patrol officers and investigators from the Exploited Missing Children’s Unit and the WPD Homicide Unit are investigating the case.
