A Sedgwick County jury has found a Wichita woman guilty in the death of her young son.
Stephanie Aviles, 24, was charged with child abuse, child endangerment and murder in the death of Jacob Aviles, 2.
In September 2019, Jacob was found unresponsive at a home near Kellogg and Seneca. He was in the care of Bernardo Gonzalez-Mejia, 31, who was the woman’s boyfriend at the time.
Prosecutors said Aviles knew Gonzalez-Mejia was abusing the child but continued to leave the boy in his care.
Gonzalez-Mejia also faces charges of child abuse, child endangerment and murder. His trial is scheduled for trial in December.
Sentencing for Aviles is set for September 2nd.
