Kansas City, MO – The first snowfall of the season appears to be just hours away. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for this Saturday.
According to the NWS, the storm here in Kansas City will bring frigid temperatures, along with rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain.
As far as snow amounts go, Channel 9 Meteorologist Katie Horner said the metro could see anywhere from 2-4" depending on where you are. She said there would be higher amounts to the north in places like Saint Joseph.
Temperatures will dip to near zero Sunday morning. Highs Sunday will only reach the low- and mid-20s.
Law enforcement on both sides of the state line said the one good thing about this storm is that it is hitting on a weekend and it is New Year's Day. There is one group who will be keeping an eye on the roads, those who work at KCSCOUT monitoring center for all the metro roadway.
"Crews will meet with the National Weather Service and others to determine the best course of action and how much snow we will receive," said Lairyn McGregor, the communication specialist for KCSCOUT
McGregor said you can expect to see salt trucks likely hitting the roads late Friday night. She urges you if you must travel to keep an eye on the KCSCOUT map and Twitter.
