KANSAS CITY - A 37-year-old woman died from her injuries after a shooting Friday night in the west part of Hutchinson and a suspect is also dead.

Officers found 37-year-old Lacy Nelson at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. She later died at a local hospital.

Hutchinson Police identified 49-year-old Curtis Richardson as a person of interest and a statewide alert was issued.

At 7 Saturday morning, the Pratt County Sheriff’s Office was called to the community of Preston for a robbery. The victim reported that a man forced entry into her home and took her vehicle.

A sheriff’s deputy responding to the call located the stolen vehicle driving south on K-61 and identified the suspect Richardson as the driver. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle but instead a chase ensued.

During the pursuit, Richardson drove into a field in Pratt County and got stuck. Authorities attempted to get Richardson to exit the vehicle using less-lethal tactics but he refused.

Later, Richardson suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and died at a local hospital.
