Country couple Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd have been together since 2015 but only released their first duet together at the beginning of the year. Joining RADIO.COM host Coop over the weekend, the couple spoke about their recent single, their son Hayes' upcoming first birthday, and much more!
"Chasing After You" has quickly become a fan favorite, even drawing comparisons to other iconic married Country couples like Johnny & June, Garth & Trisha, Faith & Tim... and now Maren & Ryan.

While the joint project felt completely natural for both of them, there was still some admitted anxiety on Ryan's part, simply because he was "terrified of it failing and her name being connected to it," he admits.
Maren certainly appreciates the comparisons to those beloved married duos, but humbly deferred, proposing that she and Ryan are not quite at that stage. "I don't consider us in those ranks quite yet," she said before Ryan asked jokingly, "Who is Dewy Cox's wife?" -- a reference to John C. Reilly's over-the-top character in Walk Hard.
"We met writing songs, so this is very much a part of our relationship," Maren continued, explaining how they have been writing together since 2013, before they even began dating.
Maren and Ryan welcomed their first son, Hayes, back in March of 2020 just as the pandemic was beginning to take its grip in the U.S. Now that the little guy is approaching his first birthday, will there be any special events or smash cakes involved in the family celebration?
Oddly enough, Maren and Ryan had only recently heard of the "smash cake" craze. "I don't care what it is,' Ryan says, "but we're doing it because that sounds fun!" After Coop gave a brief, icing-covered explainer, Ryan wondered, "what if we got a cake tub and just put his whole body in the cake and he just got to swim around in it? That seems like taking the smash cake to the next level. I'm hopeful that maybe he does the smash cake so well that his face is kind of covered, because we don't really show much of it, so we can put that picture on the Internet."
Now working on her third studio album after only five years on the scene and numerous awards and nominations following her debut with 2015's "My Church," Maren offered some advice for the person and singer she was back then. "I would just say, 'Hold on! Because it's gonna take off and you have no idea what's coming your way... I would have told her to just hang on for dear life, because it's gonna be a fun ride.'"
As for Ryan, he's also thrilled with the trajectory his career has traveled, allowing him to write songs and perform for fans the way he always dreamed while acknowledging that his duet with Maren seems to have broken him into a wider field. "I've got nothing but happy things to say about being an artist in Country music. I think I've gotten to do everything, including going to award shows with Maren and play amphitheaters, and arenas, and club shows -- but the nice thing is having something like this in your back pocket."
