PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — High blood pressure is called the “silent killer,” and it is no accident that your doctor takes your blood pressure at every visit. But why just check your blood pressure at the doctor’s office?

A home blood pressure cuff could be one of the best investments you ever make for yourself and your family, but there are some things you should know. You need the right size cuff. If it is too small, it can give you artificially high readings.

You should also sit down for five minutes before you take your pressure, and don’t say a word while the pressure is being measured.

Another good idea is to bring the cuff to the doctor’s office and compare it with the reading you get there.
