The Mets put the pieces together to trade for Francisco Lindor, now they are trying to wine and dine him to make sure he stays.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Lindor and owner Steve Cohen dined together Saturday night as the two sides try to agree on a contract extension before the All-Star shortstop’s self-imposed deadline of Opening Day (Thursday).

Perhaps not so coincidentally, Cohen had asked for Mets fans help on what they think Lindor would accept for a long-term deal.

Radio.com Sports MLB insider Jon Heyman had reported last week that the Mets were willing to go up to $300 million to get a deal done. Passan added on Sunday a deal would be for $300 million-plus, but noted there is hope something will get done prior to Opening Day.

Lindor, 27, is in the prime of his career. He is a four-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove award winner and two-time Silver Slugger winner.

Through six seasons in MLB, Lindor is slashing .285/.346/.488 with 138 home runs, 411 RBI and 99 stolen bases with a career WAR of 28.8.
