The Country superstar discussed her prior relationship with Shelton during an interview on Apple Music’s Essentials Radio. The songstress reflected on writing the song “Over You” alongside Shelton and shares how the track was inspired by the death of Blake’s brother, Richie, in 1990.
Lambert shares, “My ex-husband, Blake, had lost a brother and it's one of those moments where even if you're married to someone, sometimes you find something new about them. Dudes don't open up about things but he started telling me about the experience of it all."
Shelton, who is now 44 and currently engaged to Gwen Stefani, was only a teenager when he lost his brother Richie to a car accident. The artist had never written a song about the tragedy because it was something he could never get over.
According to E! News Miranda had shared that she offered to write the song with her then-husband, saying, “Do you want to try or is that invasive?'" She continued, “I would never try to write your story because I didn't live it, but maybe I could help because I'm an outside perspective but I feel your pain talking to me right now."
After the two stars wrote the song together, they were awarded “Song of The Year” at both the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Awards.
The “Vice” singer explained, “It was really a special moment and I'm so glad we shared that song and that it helped his family heal.”
