Football season starts up this week, which means that millions of people are getting ready to make their fantasy football picks.
At the same time, others will be betting on a different sort of entertainment: reality television.
“There’s not really a centralized place for community for television for reality TV specifically, and so we want to kind of create that hub for all of the reality fans,” said Kaitlyn Hurley, founder of the Bach Bracket, in an interview with KRLD’s Mike Rogers.
When Hurley started the Bach Bracket in 2016, it was mostly a way to have fun watching the long running TV show “The Bachelor” with her friends. Then things started growing.
As of 2019, 19% of Americans age 18 and older participate in sports betting, according to the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association. Close to 80% participated in fantasy football and 5% participated in “fantasy Bachelor” said the association.
Now, reality TV fans can head to bracketology.tv for opportunities to join leagues around other shows, such as “The Amazing Race” and “Survivor”.
Hurley told Rogers that scripted shows such as the new HBO Max series “House of the Dragon” could be on the horizon.
For now, reality TV fans will have a new season of “The Bachelor in Paradise” to bet on later this month.
