Venezuela is suddenly and inexplicably under the leadership of the United States, and Americans are divided about it.

The Washington Post conducted a quick-turn poll on the U.S. military operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and approval and disapproval were split among party lines, as one might expect. The move was heavily unpopular with Democrats, Independents and young people.

But among Republicans, there's heavy support. Seventy-six percent of Republicans in the Washington Post poll approve of Trump's actions in Venezuela in the poll, while 13% disapprove. Democrats overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump's handling of Venezuela, with 77% expressing disapproval.

Independents are broadly skeptical of Trump's actions in Venezuela, with 48% disapproving and 39% strongly disapproving.

Younger people, particularly those aged 18-29, are particularly unhappy with Trump's actions in Venezuela, with only 19 percent approving.

The American Conservative reported a poll of nearly 1,000 adults, and it found Americans mostly look unfavorably on President Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela. Thirty-nine percent said they approved and 46% disapproved of the "way Donald Trump is handling Venezuela.”

So, that's a view of the public, but how do U.S. allies feel? The New York Times reported, "Shortly after President Trump announced that the United States would run the country, European leaders appeared to largely support the end to Mr. Maduro’s rule and were more cautious to criticize Mr. Trump’s intervention."
