WATCH: Police arrest Grinch for attempting to 'steal' holiday cheer

VERONA, N.J. – The Grinch was “arrested” in New Jersey after harassing a group of elves on a firetruck and trying to “steal holiday cheer,” officials said in a series of tongue-in-cheek social media posts.

Video showing the “arrest” of the green and hairy Dr. Seuss villain was shared by the Verona Police Department.

It all apparently started with the Grinch “tormenting” elves on a fire truck in the Essex County town on Sunday.

“Trouble!! Trouble!! Trouble!! The elves on Truck 12 are under attack from the Grinch!!” the town’s fire department posted.

It wasn’t long before the Grinch was nabbed by officers. Video shows the Christmas killjoy being placed in the back of a patrol car in cuffs.

Police said he was busted for “attempting to steal holiday cheer.”

It appears the elves were in town with Santa Claus, who handed out candy canes and even stopped to congratulate a newly engaged firefighter and his fiancée.

“The streets of Verona are safe once again,” the fire department said. “The Grinch can’t stop Christmas this year!”
