Out on April 2 via Gud Vibrations and Insomniac Records, Texas-based EDM trio WAVEDASH’s debut album World Famous Tour has finally arrived after four years in the making.
Gavin Bendt, Luke Shippey, and Michael Stone of WAVEDASH got their big break when they were still in high school with "Bang" in 2016, released on Dubstep-deity Skrillex's OWSLA label and have since released an EP, Devil Music, on British DJ Matt Zo's Mad Zoo imprint as well as a number of records with Gud Vibrations featuring their genre-hopping sound.
Deviating from the typical WAVEDASH sound with elements of bedroom pop, experimental, and sample based production they acknowledge that although rare for artists in their genre to release full albums and admit, "all of our artistic idols put out records that were really influential to us, and all the biggest moments that we can pinpoint in dance music that affected us heavily did come from albums. So, we got to this point where we had a pool of like 30 demos... and started to narrow it down."
Once the pandemic hit, they felt they had to shelve the release, which was ready for a world that could handle an EDM show in mid-2020, but that world had quickly evaporated. The decision to drop the album now, still immersed in that world of social distancing, came after hearing releases from their peers during lockdown that tended to brighten their days. "It really had a positive impact on us when other people were releasing music, so we were like, 'we should totally follow suit.' We really feel like this album can be a beacon of light for some people right now. And I think a lot of people do need that."
