DALLAS -- NFL officials say referee Jerome Boger and his crew made the correct call on a play that sealed the Eagles win over the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

The play in question occurred when the Cowboys had the ball on the Eagles 21-yard line with over 5 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Dallas was down 15-9 and was looking to tie the game and potentially take the lead with an extra point when rookie quarterback Ben Dinucci was strip-sacked by a swarming Eagles pass rush. Eagles defensive end Vinny Curry appeared to recover the football and was touched on the ground by Cowboys offensive lineman Connor Williams.

After a brief tussle, the ball popped loose and Eagles defensive back Rodney McLeod picked up the ball and ran it back for a 53-yard touchdown.

After the game, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said he believed an Eagle was offsides on the play.

Replay showed Eagles linebacker Duke Riley step over the line of scrimmage right before the snap, which should have resulted in an offsides penalty being called, which would have nullified the fumble and the ensuing touchdown.

McCarthy also said he believed Curry was clearly touched while in possession of the football, which would have kept the deficit at six points, while giving the Eagles the ball on their own 35-yard line.

The Cowboys coach added that he wasn't given much explanation from Boger, but was told the play was automatically reviewed.

The replay appeared to agree with McCarthy's assessment of the call, however, the NFL's officials said in a statement that the correct call was made.

The outcome could have been very different as Dallas still had all three timeouts and their defense had been playing their best game of the season.
