Odell Beckham Jr. may be the only person in the world who has 2020 going according to plan.
The Cleveland Browns star receiver looks much better than he did all of last year and has played a key role in the franchise’s 4-1 start, its best since 1994 when Bill Belichick was the coach.
For Beckham, the “stars have aligned.”
“I have a tattoo that has a barcode, and it says, in this order, ‘Two thousand, a hundred and twenty.’ And it really stood for 2,000 yards, 100 receptions and 20 touchdowns,” he said on CBS, via the Akron Beacon Journal. “But it starts and ends with 20 and 20, and I had been talking about 2020 for so long. It’s just like all the stars have aligned.”
While Beckham has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since his season-ending ankle injury in 2017, the star receiver has been a far cry from the dominant force he was when he first entered the league – and his teams have produced nothing but losing records in that span, too.
But things are starting to look up for the Browns and Beckham. They handled the Indianapolis Colts in a 32-23 win on Sunday while Beckham caught five passes for 58 yards and threw an 18-yard pass to tight end Austin Hooper. He now has 366 yards from scrimmage, including 21 catches for 294 yards, three receiving touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and now a throwing touchdown.
The Browns 4-1 record is not just the franchise’s best start in 26 years, but has them right in the thick of the AFC North fight with the 4-1 Baltimore Ravens and 4-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Browns will take on the undefeated Steelers next weekend in what should be a crucial early season test in determining whether or not the Browns are true contenders.
If Beckham and the Browns can produce a big win, perhaps maybe the stars truly are aligned.
