The Manning vs. Brady rivalry is still holding strong.
While Tom Brady embarks on his 10th Super Bowl at age 43, Peyton Manning is enjoying his retired life and doing some work for ESPN.
In a segment titled “Peyton’s Place” that is streamed on ESPN+, the former Colts and Broncos quarterback couldn’t resist working in a dig at Brady and the Patriots’ Deflategate scandal during an interview with actor Kurt Russell.
Manning was talking with Russell about his 1986 film, “The Best of Times,” in which he played a quarterback – a difficult task for Russell, who had torn his rotator cuff years earlier.
Russell said he was able to throw the ball because it was slightly smaller and “kinda softened a little bit so I can get on top of it.”
Manning, hardly missing a beat, responded, “kinda like the Patriots, yeah.”
Russell, a Massachusetts native and Patriots fan, appeared to get a kick out of Manning’s jab.
While Manning was not directly impacted by Deflategate, it did occur against his former team, the Colts.
Of course, the final score of the game in question was 45-7, so even if Brady did have a slight advantage with the balls, it is hard to determine if it would have changed the outcome of the game.
The actor also spoke to Manning about his experience watching Super Bowl XLII in Robert Kraft’s suite – when Peyton’s brother, Eli, defeated the 18-0 Patriots.
