Doesn't this sound familiar?

Like when Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch said that the Cardinals were attempting to get talks going regarding an Arenado trade back in December of 2018? Or like when Jon Paul Morosi of MLB Network brought up St. Louis' discussion of a blockbuster trade with Colorado for Arenado, even bringing up which pieces were likely to be part of the Cardinals' trade package, in early 2020?

This time, it's MLB insider Ken Rosenthal who's telling us that the two teams are in talks regarding an Arenado swap, though no deal appears close. However, Rosenthal says that the star third baseman would likely waive his no-trade clause in order to allow such a move to go through and might push his opt-out back to ease some of the Cardinals' potential contract worries.

RADIO.COM Sports MLB insider Jon Heyman heard the same thing.

The Cardinals join the Mets as another potential team who might be in the hunt for an Arenado trade — or, rather, a team the Rockies may be hunting down so that they can get Arenado off their books. There are six years and $199 million left on Arenado's deal, and considering the fact that he's frustrated with the organization in which he's spent his whole career — especially GM Jeff Bridich — that's not an easy contract to pay off if you're the Rockies.

What would the Cardinals be getting in Arenado? A perennial 40 home run threat and run producer — some of which has come as a result of his Coors Field surroundings — and an incredible defensive player at the third baseman, with range and arm strength that's rivaled by few. In fact, according to arguably the greatest third baseman in league history, Arenado is just "three or four of his normal years away from being the greatest third baseman of all time."

This time, will the trade talks fizzle out as they have in the past? Or will they intensify and signal the end of an era in Colorado? It'll be a fun development to follow.
