NBA Rookie of the Year odds-on favorite Anthony Edwards had a surprising answer when he was asked about Alex Rodriguez’s pending deal to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves. In response to a reporter's question this week about his potential new owner, Edwards said he has no clue who the former MLB star is.
When the reporter asked Edwards what he thinks of A-Rod and if he is a fan of his, Edwards said, “A fan? Who is he?”
Who is he??? This is kind of incredible. Edwards is 19 years old and Rodriguez retired in 2016, which was not a terribly long time ago. And he played for the New York Yankees! The great part is Edwards said in another interview that he played baseball as a kid, along with every other sport on the planet, so do not try to tell us you know nothing about baseball.
Even if, even IF, he didn’t know A-Rod as a baseball player, how do you miss every headline that man has made since retiring? He was engaged to Jennifer Lopez until the other day for goodness sake.
And Rodriguez took some time out from nursing his J-Lo heartbreak to respond to Edwards on Instagram.
It astounds me that this Rookie of the Year odds leader (-125, odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook), a professional athlete who is currently still a teenager and played baseball as a kid, doesn’t know who A-Rod is. But he is about to know very well who he is now that Rodriguez is about to buy the Timberwolves. So this will, no doubt, be the perfect icebreaker when the two eventually meet.
