Following Russian attacks on the port city of Mariupol, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that nearly 100,000 people are stuck and are suffering under "inhumane conditions," according to CNBC.
He added that the people are "without food, water, medication, under constant shelling and under constant bombing," per The Guardian.
Mariupol has been under attack since the Russian invasion began last month, and satellite images are now showing just how much destruction has been done to the city.
Maxar Technologies, a US satellite images company, published the images that show the devastating damage that Mariupol has suffered.
Mariupol deputy mayor Sergeii Orlov said that 90% of the city's infrastructure has been demolished.
The images show everything from residential buildings to factories destroyed by the Russian attacks, including the maternity hospital that was hit with a Russian airstrike on March 9.
Smoke can be seen coming from a number of buildings, as well as flooding caused by the Russian attacks. There are additional images that show Russian forces on the ground surrounding other Ukrainian cities.
Zelensky added that more than 7,000 people have escaped Mariupol in the past day amid these dangerous conditions, per The Guardian.
"We are trying to organize stable humanitarian corridors for Mariupol residents, but almost all of our attempts, unfortunately, are foiled by the Russian occupiers, by shelling or deliberate terror," Zelensky said, per Daily Mail.
