ST. LOUIS - A second grade student brought a gun to a St. Louis school and police are investigating.
It happened Friday at Pamoja Preparatory Academy, located off Vandeventer Avenue near the Saint Louis University campus. School officials tells KMOX, a teacher picked up on unusual behavior by a second grader, found the weapon and took action.

School security and police were called. The incident was reported to Family Services, per St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) protocol.
KMOX asked if the gun was loaded and the district referred us to the St. Louis Police Department. We are waiting for a response.
The district is reminding parents, guardians and caregivers, to secure firearms and keep them out of the reach of children. KMOX is waiting for a response from St. Louis Police on where the investigation stands.
The school has children from kindergarten to eighth grade and changed its name from Cole Elementary to Bertha Knox Gilkey Pamoja Preparatory Academy in 2011. It's named after the activist who fought for tenant rights in the 1960s and 70s.
She orchestrated a nine-month rent strike with residents of Pruitt-Igoe and other St. Louis public housing programs.
