A story from former Warriors big man Andrew Bogut was both confirmed and partially contradicted on Wednesday night. The Australia native hopped on his "Rogues Bogues" podcast in January and shared an interesting tidbit about Stephen Curry that added to his legacy as an extremely unique player.
"Steph's one of the elite as far as preparing for games," Bogut said. "He's one of the unique ones where... he'll check his mentions at halftime when he has a bad half. It's kind of the craziest sh-- I ever saw. When I first came into the league, phones were kind of frowned upon in the locker room for the most part. Now, it's a f---ing sh-- show.
"If he had a bad half, he would go on social media, and then come out and drop 30."
So what happened on Wednesday night? Curry did, in fact, appear to check his Twitter mentions, considering NBC Sports Bay Area host Grant Liffmann took a screenshot for proof. The contradictory aspect of the story? Steph wasn't exactly having a bad game.
Unless, of course, you call 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists on 6-12 shooting (5-10 3P) a "bad game." If anything, checking out his Twitter may have helped him. His third quarter performance was inhuman: a perfect 8-8 from the field, 6-6 from beyond the arc, and 25 points to show for it.
With 11 made three-pointers through three quarters, Curry had a real chance of breaking the single-game record of 14, held by fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson. But the fact of the matter is that the Warriors were leading by 42 points — which is also how many points Curry had through three quarters — which meant that the Dubs didn't necessarily require his services in the fourth... much to Steph's chagrin.
For your fill of NBA trivia for the day, here's a list of every NBA player ever — there are only 20 of them across 22 instances — with at least six three-pointers made in a quarter and no misses from deep in that same period. Curry and Trevor Ariza are the only repeat entries in this sharpshooting group (via Stathead).
