Is Tua Tagovailoa destined to be one-and-done in Miami?

Tua, the fifth overall pick in last year's draft, appeared to acknowledge the possibility in a pair of candid radio appearances on Monday.

The Alabama product, who has surfaced in trade speculation swirling around Texans superstar QB Deshaun Watson, conceded he's uncertain about where he'll be playing in 2021.

“Honestly, I’m not too sure," Tua said on the Dan Patrick Show. "Like I said, I can’t control things that I can’t control. What I can do is continue to work hard."

Tua, the league's only starting left-handed quarterback, conceded his production was mediocre in his rookie year.

“I would describe my rookie season as below-average,” he said on Mad Dog Sports Radio. “This past season wasn’t up to my expectation that I have for myself. But there were a lot of things that I was able to learn from. Being able to look at the defenses and how different all of the schemes are with defensive coordinators.

“Everyone runs different things. Hopefully I can compartmentalize everything and have a much better season next year.”

The Dolphins, despite coming off a 10-6 season, appear to be unsettled at the quarterback position. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick was demoted in favor of Tua despite leading the team to a strong start, a deeply polarizing strategy among fans and observers.

While the jury is out on Tua, the Dolphins look like a win-now team -- and could therefore be a more attractive landing spot for Watson than a team undertaking a complete rebuild, such as the Jets.

Watson has Miami high on his list of preferred destinations, ESPN's Chris Mortensen recently reported.

Tua, for his part, isn't sure if the Dolphins view him as a franchise cornerstone, but said it's out of his control.

“In my mind and in my heart I would like to hope so,” he said. “But for me with the way things went last year, you always have to prove yourself to do better, and I want to do better.
