(WBEN) It would seem some people just never learn from their mistakes. Take for example a couple in West Seneca who got busted for shoplifting and then just after being released by the West Seneca Police are caught agin for breaking into cars in front of the Police station. In addition if someone stops to help you jump your car, don't back into his car when your leaving. Here is the strange story from the West Seneca Police:
On Friday, July 24th officers arrested Amy L Hofbauer, 42 of Depew, and Patrick J Canaan, 36 of Buffalo, on several theft related charges. Officers responded around 5:30pm to Wegmans on Orchard Park Rd for a report of two suspects fleeing the store after several attempts at shoplifting over $600 worth of groceries. While attempting to drive away, the couple's getaway vehicle stalled. A Good Samaritan, unaware of their prior activities, assisted them in jump starting their vehicle. Upon getting the car restarted, Hofbauer then backed her vehicle into the Good Samaritan's, causing damage, and drove off. A responding officer spotted the vehicle and instructed the two to pull their vehicle over in the parking lot. They briefly stopped before attempting to flee the scene again and drove on to Orchard Park Rd where they were stopped by other responding patrol cars who were able to box the suspect vehicle in and take the two into custody. Inside the vehicle officers found several food items already stolen from inside Wegmans. The two were charged with petit larceny with additional charges pending further investigation. Hofbauer was also charged with numerous traffic violations including leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving on a suspended license. They were both released from WSPD on appearance tickets to return to court on a later date. Just minutes after the two were released, dispatch received a report of a woman on Norwood Dr, not far from the station, walking down the street and taking items from people's vehicles. Patrol located the woman, Amy Hofbauer, directly across from the police station with several dozen pieces of property from vehicles including cash, change, sunglasses, prescription narcotics, a wallet, and credit cards. She was returned back to the station to be processed and was charged with several counts of Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th (E felony) and 5th degree, Grand Larceny 4th degree (E felony), and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree. In accordance with New York State bail laws, Hofbauer was released on an appearance ticket and driven home by patrol.
