Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond has made 15 three pointers in 103 attempts throughout his NBA career. That's good for a 14.6 percent clip from beyond the arc — not exactly a scorching rate of success.
But practice makes perfect; we saw it in his drastic change in free throw success. From his rookie year to his fifth campaign in the NBA — all with Detroit — the UConn alum sunk 683 free throws out of 1,793 attempts, good for a paltry 38.1 percent mark from the charity stripe. No player in the league had a lower figure over that five-year span in the NBA.
From 2018 to 2020, however, Drummond shot 59.1 percent from the foul line. Still not great, no. But certainly a marked improvement.
Could we be seeing the same trend with his three-point stroke? If the below video, posted by sports reporter Ashley Nevel on Instagram, is any indication of Drummond's role and skill set going forward, it definitely seems as though he'll knock down some long-range shots in the 2020-21 campaign.
Whoa! The Pistons, Drummond's former team before an early 2020 trade, boast two big men capable of knocking down the long ball in Blake Griffin and Christian Wood — for now — but they never saw Drummond putting up a display like this one.
As for his time with his current team, the Cavaliers, there are some decisions to be made. Lead NBC Sports NBA writer Kurt Helin dug into how the Cavs should approach Drummond's contract, set to expire following the 2020-21 season, and much more below.
