As artists, entertainers, members of the media, and fans continue to remember DMX, we’re looking back at his performance from the 2019 ONE MusicFest in Atlanta where Audacy’s Big Tigger spoke to DMX backstage.
“The energy was incredible,” X told Big Tigger after his performance. “It was hot as a motherf***** out there!”
After Big Tigger asked DMX whether he thought he’d still be here 20 years later performing in front of packed crowds, X responded, “I hoped I would.”
“It’s a stretch to actually think it would happen, but by the grace of God it happened man. I’m just blessed.”

X’s love for his fans was there his entire career. Back in 2006, he spoke with Audacy station Z104 in Norfolk on the heels of his sixth studio album Year of the Dog… Again.
After several frustrating delays that stemmed from DMX switching labels, he was finally able to get the green light to release the record the way he wanted to. “The music is mine and it was made for the fans,” he said. “They’re going to see the music.”
Ed Lover, former host of Yo! MTV Raps and now morning host at 104.3 JAMS in Chicago, along with V-103's Big Tigger and DJ Nonstop, touring DJ for DMX and current member of the Audacy family have provided exclusive statements on the passing of DMX.
“DMX was my brother,” DJ Nonstop said. “There will never be another one like him. X is a one of a kind. I will always cherish all the time I spent on stage with him, but even more so the time we spent together off stage in private, those memories will stay in my heart forever."
“In life and in music, God creates special people,” Ed Lover said. “Sometimes they are a One of One. Meaning, there was no one like them before they came and there will be no one like them after they’re gone. DMX was a ONE of ONE! Our heartfelt condolences to his family and fans.”
"The untimely passing of DMX is a immeasurable loss," Big Tigger shared when reached for comment. "The Legendary artist will be forever remembered as one of the best to ever do it and as a loving father, husband, son, and my friend."
