Famed Australian children’s music group The Wiggles reunited with two of their original members to tackle a cover from fellow Australian’s Tame Impala. The Wiggles brought back keyboardist Jeff Fatt and guitarist Murray Cook as they appeared on Australian radio station Triple J’s program Like A Version.
Taking on Tame Impala’s hit 2012 track “Elephant,” The Wiggles opted to pay tribute to another internationally successful Australian group. “We wanted to choose something Australian,” Emma Watkins, the Yellow Wiggle said. “For most of the time that we’ve had the honour of going to The ARIAs, we get to see Tame Impala a lot on stage.”
“We’ve never really met them properly but we thought that we’d like to pay tribute to this amazing Australian band,” she added.
Appropriately, bassist and Blue Wiggle Anthony Field donned an elephant costume throughout the performance.
The Wiggles effortlessly mashed up a new song called “We’re All Fruit Salad” within their performance of “Elephant.” The song was written by Field and serves as a song that aims to bring people together. It was also partly inspired by John Edward, the psychic medium who was the host of the Sci-Fi Channel show Crossing Over with John Edward.
“There were all sorts of things happening in America,” Field said.
“Racial tension and riots and all sorts of terrible things going on and John wrote to me and said, ‘Mate, it’s time The Wiggles tried to bring everyone together,’ and he suggested rainbows. I said rainbows aren’t our thing but fruit salad is our thing.”
