Pike had made it to the top 16 when it was announced that he had dropped out of American Idol. Now, he’s taken to Instagram for his first comments since his departure.
“I had to leave the @AmericanIdol competition for personal reasons but am so thankful I get to play music for the rest of my life,” Pike wrote.
“Fellow contestants - miss you all, good luck! Thank you to everyone for your support… do stick around for more musical things soon!”
While his comments don’t provide much clarity as to why he left the show, it closes the chapter.
Pike received high praise from each American Idol judge as Luke Bryan told him, “I'm telling you, Wyatt, you are going to be able to do music for the rest of your life."
“To watch you take that song and make it your song, you're on your way to something big, my friend," Lionel Richie added.
