The New York Yankees stink lately (or, in Boston, they suck always) and have dropped like a rock to the bottom of the AL East standings. They’re 5-10 so far this season. They’re on a five-game losing streak. And their betting odds don’t reflect this abysmal performance of late at all.
If you look at the Yankees futures odds currently, all seems well. Their odds to make the playoffs (odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook) are Yes -475 and No +350. They’re still the favorite to win the AL East (-150), the AL Championship (+250), and in second place to win the World Series at +650. The Los Angeles Dodgers are favored to win the World Series (+325) and they’re 13-3 right now, in first place in the NL West.
In no way should New York’s odds be this short. If they keep playing as horribly as they have been they won’t stay like this for long. Right now, the Boston Red Sox are in second at +400 to win the division and are quickly gaining on the Yankees.
Right now, their odds make the Yankees seem better than they are at this point in the season.
THIS is how bad the team is, their fans are turning on them and inspiring comparisons to Friends’ Ross and Rachel.
That is really not good.
Of course, the MLB season is a marathon and not a sprint. The Yankees are talented and still have four months to turn things around. However, keep an eye on the movement of these odds should New York continue to struggle.
