When you think about Brett Young's biggest songs (which include "In Case You Didn't Know," "Like I Loved You," "Here Tonight," and others), you'll notice a common thread: they're all ballads. And the "You Didn't" singer is totally cool with that.

“It’s definitely where I gravitate," he admits in a statement from his label. "The track record speaks for itself. I think we’ve seen that that’s what works for me, and I’m not mad at it.

"It is my favorite style of song to write," he continues. "I’m always lyrics first and story first, regardless of the tempo of the song I’m writing, I think that people are less likely to pay attention to the lyric when they’re listening to an up-tempo song. It makes you start movin’ and it puts you in a different headspace.

"But the type of song that I would choose to listen to, if I was driving around in my car by myself, is the type of song that’s working for me as an artist. I enjoy writing them. I enjoy performing them. So, I think that tugging on the heartstrings is what we’re asked to do a ls songwriters anyway, and I think it’s easier to do in a ballad.”
