David Boreanaz is speaking out amid claims of misconduct against “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” auteur Joss Whedon.
Boreanaz, who starred as the benevolent vampire Angel in the original series as well as the spinoff “Angel,” shared a show of support to his co-star Charisma Carpenter after she shared a detailed message claiming that Whedon was abusive on set, especially towards women.
“I am here for you to listen and support you,” Boreanaz, 51, wrote on Sunday in response to Carpenter’s post. “Proud of your strength,” he added.
Carpenter, 50, thanked Boreanaz for his support in a response tweet.
“I know you’re there for me, David,” she wrote. “I appreciate all you’ve done to demonstrate that support privately as well. Especially since Wednesday … thank you so much.”
Carpenter wrote in a statement on Feb. 10 that Whedon “abused his power on numerous occasions” on the sets of both shows, citing alleged incidents that included referring to her as “fat” to colleagues when she was four months pregnant, and making “ongoing, passive-aggressive threats to fire me.”
Other “Buffy” stars have spoken out against Whedon, including Michelle Trachtenberg, who recently said the “The Avengers” director was not allowed in a room with her on the show’s set, and the show’s star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who spoke out in solidarity with her former co-stars.
“While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon,” Gellar wrote. “I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out.”
