Jordan proved his love for the species by joining scientist and good friend, Chris Fischer, on a scientific quest to Nova Scotia to collect shark data. The journey was in tandem with Fischer’s OCEARCH organization, which is dedicated to saving sharks everywhere.
“Was able to go up to Nova Scotia and we ended up tagging a shark that they ended up calling Megumi,” Jordan told Audacy’s Rob + Holly. “A 16-foot, 3500+ pounds, 40-50 year old female white shark. I can’t tell you the last time my heart got to pumpin’ that fast.”
Saving sharks — we had no idea that’s what Jordan was up to on his off days! It’s clearly a cause near and dear to Davis, who says the species gets a bad wrap.
“I Don’t think we realize how important the white shark is to our oceans and keeping everything in balance,” Jordan said. “If we lose the white shark, we lose our oceans.”
The “Singles You Up,” singer wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty for the cause telling Rob + Holly he was right in the center of the action.
“I pulled a muscle sample from it, I pulled a blood sample. I got a measurement from head to tail. I was shakin’,” he said laughing. “If she decided to move, it was every man for himself.”
When he isn’t in international waters, wrangling sharks for data, Davis is at home wrangling his first-born, Eloise, and awaiting the arrival of his son, who he looks forward to raising the same way his father raised him.
“This is our first Davis boy, so we’re stoked,” said Davis. “I think back to that time in the woods with my dad or going fishing… those things are staples in my childhood… It’s just a full circle moment of like ‘Man, I remember doing this with my Dad when I was a kid.”
Jordan recently released new music via his Buy Dirt EP. The project features eight songs including previously released “Need To Not,” and “Almost Maybes” as well as the title track featuring fellow artist, Luke Bryan.
“I Couldn’t be more proud to have my name on this project,” Jordan wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to the people who helped me create and get this EP to the world… Thank you all for allowing me to ‘Do what I love and call it work.’ See ya from a stage soon… In the meantime turn up, Buy Dirt."
