It all started on American Idol for Scotty McCreery and the North Carolina native will never forget it. Not only did it reward him a win that launched his career as a Country recording artist, but it filled his memory box with priceless moments we won’t soon forget — like the first time he heard fellow Country artist and American Idol contestant, Lauren Alaina sing.

“I’ll never forget the first time I met Lauren Alaina, it was Hollywood Week, and I’m listening to her sing thinking, ‘Oh my God, she is incredible.’ Thinking she’s going all the way, and obviously she did.” McCreery reminisced while talking to Audacy’s Rob + Holly at Tortuga Music Festival.
“It’s been fun over the years… I love to turn on the radio and hear Lauren’s voice. Any time I can hear Lauren’s voice it’s like ‘Wow! She is incredible,’” he continued. “We’re not talking every day, but it’s still that brotherly-sister relationship when we do see each other we’re catching up, hugging, asking how the families are.”
McCreery and Alaina will have plenty of time to catch up as they are scheduled to perform together for Idol’s 20th birthday celebration on May 2, along with several other Idol standout from across the years.
“We’re going to sing a little diddly together,” Scotty teased, keeping details a secret. Other Idols scheduled to appear on the episode include Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth, Maddie Poppe, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Willie Spence and Grace Kinstler.
