KMOX voice explains the concerns of pregnancy during the pandemic

ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - For expectant moms, there's a lot to be concerned about.   This year, pregnant women have added a global pandemic to their list of worries.

Our co-worker, Elise Rich, just welcomed the newest member of her family.  So we asked her what it was like to be pregnant during the pandemic.   "The fact of the matter is you're pregnant.  You know that's not going to change.  So I tried to just kind of not think about the worst case." Elise says her family followed the recommended guidelines to protect themselves against the coronavirus, but she didn't spend hours reading all the latest research on pregancy and the pandemic.  "Nothing's going to change with me know that information or not.  I still have to go to my appointments, I still have to go to a hospital and have this baby, so I'm going to take the precautions I need to take and hope for the best."

One difference from her previous preganancies was the frequency of appointments -- she says her practitioner spaced check-ups further apart to reduce the risk of exposure.

Congratulations to Elise and husband Tony on the new edition to their family - a healthy baby boy.
