ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Aldermanic President Lewis Reed said his 22-year-old son survived an attempted holdup outside the family home by running away and hopping a fence.
Reed said it's another example why the city needs to enact a crime prevention program called Cure Violence.
"My God — we should have this in the City of St. Louis," Reed said. "You know, my son could have been shot and killed just last night, but for the grace of God, the guy didn't pull the trigger."
The attempted armed holdup of his son happened at 1 a.m. outside Reed's home in the 2900 block of Russell in the Compton Heights neighborhood — a neighborhood he says is generally safe. Reed's nephew was shot and killed a year and a half ago in north St. Louis.
