(KMOX) - "There it is folks, baseball history."
That was the call on KMOX by the great Mike Shannon, 20 year ago today, when St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Fernando Tatis hit two grand slams in the third inning of a 12-5 victory at Dodger Stadium.
In the other broadcast booth that day of baseball history was Vin Scully, who said "When he came up the second time, I said, 'I’m not even going to look in the record book because I can’t believe anybody could have ever (hit two slams in an inning),' and then damned if he didn’t do it. What would it be comparable to? I don’t know how you could compare it to anything. One inning is so preposterous."
Both grand slams came off the same pitcher, Chan Ho Park.
Only 13 major leaguers have to hit two grand slams in one game.
