Arthur Ashe moved to St. Louis in 1960 from Richmond, Virginia because there were no indoor tennis courts in his hometown. Ashe attended Sumner High School and later enjoyed a brilliant tennis career, becoming the first black male to win singles titles at the US Open and Wimbledon. In 2018, a park was established in Ashe's name in Richmond Heights next to 1221 Laclede Station Road, where the future tennis star lived while attending high school in St. Louis.
