JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) - Dexter Fowler's standing with the St. Louis Cardinals hasn't been a secret for some time now. Since last November, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak has said the club expects Fowler to be their right fielder this year and beyond.
And Fowler has looked and sounded confident he'll be able to play the part after his well-known struggles in 2018.
"I think my game will prove to itself," Fowler says. "You just go out there and you have fun and if I'm myself I think everything will take care of itself. This is my 11th year in the big leagues, I don't think you play that long if you're not confident in your tools."
But it's not just himself who's confident. Manager Mike Shildt says he's been seeing more of that "million-dollar" smile this spring, which means he's feeling more like himself than under previous managment. And Fowler's mentor, Barry Bonds likes what he sees.
Bonds saw Folwer's swing recently via video and Fowler says Bonds told him it looked "perfect."
