ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — The Castle Point neighborhood in St. Louis County is getting an art installation, and one of the artist is just 14-years-old.

Zion Harrell painted a scene of an older blues musician seated playing a guitar with his eyes closed. The tones are muted but it is still colorful.

Harrell created the 4'x8' mural as part of this summer's apprenticeship class at St. Louis Artworks. The class was given the task of creating artwork that represented St. Louis.

He says this is the first time he has ever painted. He's been sketching with a pencil since he was in elementary school, but this experience definitely helped to improve his art skills.

"The way I look at art and the way I'm going to apply myself to creating things has changed," Harrell said. "I also feel like I'm more community oriented now; I definitely want to do things to help other people and put my skills to use."

Harrell said he plans to combine architecture and engineering when he grows up.  His mural and others from his apprentice class were installed on boarded up homes in the Castle Point community Tuesday morning.
