COLUMBIA, S.C. (KMOX) — Samantha Josephson, 21, believed she was getting into a car she requested from Uber early Friday morning, but the next day her body was found by turkey hunters in a wooded area 60 miles away.
Surveillance video shows the University of South Carolina student on her phone near a large crowd and then climbing into the back seat of a Chevy Impala that pulls up.
“She had, in fact, summoned an Uber ride,” Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook told USA Today. “She simply mistakenly got into this car, thinking it was an Uber.”
“I don’t want anyone else to go through this again,” he said. “What we learned is … you guys have to travel together. If there’s two of you, something is less likely to happen. Samantha was by herself — she had absolutely no chance. None.”
