ST. LOUIS--(KMOX)--Like a disaster movie without a disaster, a giant crane successfully hoisted a swimming pool atop the roof of old the International Shoe Building on Washington Avenue.
With onlookers craning their necks on the sidewalk, a 380 ton crane gingerly lifted the 60 foot pool in two equal halves atop the ten story building.
Workers on the roof grabbed tether lines to guide the pool sections into place without incident.

— Kevin Killeen (@KMOXKilleen) January 23, 2019Standing on the ground watching, the general manager of the hotel going in at the site, Jason Gifford, says the this will be the largest rooftop swimming pool downtown.
But there won't be a diving board. It's only 42 inches deep, and designed more for lounging and having a drink in the pool, Gifford says.
Gifford says the pool will be open for hotel guests and locals who pay a cover charge for drinks.
The Last Hotel, as it's called, is scheduled to open in the spring.
