Discounts, Freebies, Deals Available for Unpaid Government Workers During Shutdown

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Friday brings us to the seventh week of this partial government shutdown. For nearly six weeks there have been hundreds of thousands of government workers either off the job, or working and not receiving a regular paycheck.

St. Louis businesses/restaurants:

Rock & Brews, Chesterfield: Rock & Brews Restaurants will offer a choice of a free Pulled Pork sandwich or a Strawberry Fields salad to TSA employees who show their ID card.

Casa Maria Mexican Grill, Belleville: 20 percent discount on all food and soft drinks to all federal employees during this shutdown. And if you're among those who haven't seen a dime since the shutdown began on Dec. 22 – then your meal will be completely free. 

Blended Cuts and Styles barbershop, St. Peters:

Urban Chestnut Brewing, Midtown and Grove: Discounts to furloughed employees on all food and beverage items Sunday through Thursday at its Midtown and Grove locations for the duration of the shutdown.

House of India, U-City: free lunch buffet to federal employees.

Wellspent Brewery, Midtown: 30 percent off its menu during regular business hours Wednesday through Sunday.

Sardella Osteria, Clayton: Free to-go sandwiches to government employees. 

Nation-wide deals:

Harles Globetrotters tickets: Any furloughed government employee can show their valid government ID at their local box office and receive two free game tickets to the team's 2019 Fan Powered North American tour.

Sky Zone: Federal government employees furloughed or currently without pay can bring up to three immediate family members and get 60 minutes of free play every Tuesday through Thursday in January.

Many wireless providers: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and Community Phone are offering new flexible payment plans, waving late payment fees and offering other options to meet the needs of customers who are federal workers.

White Castle: Federal workers can specifically claim "a free Combo Meal (#1 - 6) or any Breakfast Combo Meal" at their local White Castle during "Slider Summit" on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Hyundai: Hyundai is deferring all vehicle loan-and-lease payments owed by out-of-pay federal workers for an entire month.
