LISTEN: Shildt – on honeymoon – begins his Sunday show on KMOX

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The season hasn't started yet, but Cardinals manager Mike Shildt started his radio show right on time.

Shildt, on his honeymoon with his wife, Michelle, joined KMOX for the "Mike Shildt Show" on March 29 ... the date that would have been the first Sunday on the baseball schedule.

"This is what it's about," Shildt said after discussing a myriad of topics on the Cardinals' flagship station. "Hopefully it's able to bring some smiles to people around the country — and in the St. Louis area — that are such passionate, loving baseball fans. Hopefully it gets the juices flowing in a good manner."

Shildt touched on the team's outfield situation, exemplary defense and baserunning, pitching staff and the continued push to improve the offense.

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak, from his home in St. Louis, also joined the show in his regular 11:30 a.m. slot, creating a feeling of normalcy for listeners in an otherwise uncertain world.

Mozeliak did, however, have an important message for listeners:

"The more we can avoid people right now, the better," Mozeliak said. "There's no doubt that what you read and what you're seeing in other major metropolitan areas, you know, that can be scary. If all play it smart here, maybe it will be something that will be less... or more preventable.

"I heard this the other day and I think it holds true: 'All storms run out of rain, and this one will, too.'"

Shildt agreed that when baseball does return, it will be as grand as any we'll remember.

"It will be amazing, it'll be well worth the wait," Shildt said. "And I look forward to getting back to playing some baseball and connecting with our wonderful fans. Enjoying the game that we all love so much."
