DANGEROUS HEAT WARNING: Wednesday will be one of the hottest days of the year, says NWS

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The National Weather Service has a heat warning out for the entire St. Louis region, as extreme heat and humidity will make Wednesday one of the hottest days of the year thus far. The forecast calls for a heat index between 105 and 109 degrees this afternoon and evening. 

The temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90s, but it will feel at least 10 degrees hotter due to humidity. 

In a Facebook post this morning, the National Weather Service says, "Today looks like it will be one of the hottest days so far this year."

They warn people to stay inside as much as possible today and avoid strenuous activity during the warmest part of the day. 

There are also "strong to severe storms" expected in the afternoon as a cold front will bring scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and into the evening. 

"The primary threats will be damaging winds & large hail," reports the NWS.

For the rest of this week, temperatures are going to drop back into the 80s for highs on Thursday and Friday with mostly sunny skies.
