If you follow a few of the St. Louis Cardinals players on Instagram you've likely seen center fielder Harrison Bader throwing some weight around in the gym or starting pitcher Jack Flaherty running sprints on a sandy beach.
So when Flaherty joined KMOX's Chris Hrabe and Mike Claiborne for this week's Cardinals Countdown to Opening Day show, we had to ask who the best athletes on the team were. You can listen to their full show below, Flaherty's interview is at the 38:15 mark:
Here's part of their conversation:
Hrabe: If it's pitchers against position players? You're playing hoops or you're playing...
Flahety: Pitchers. It doesn't matter, pitchers. Especially if we played a baseball game. But if we played basketball, if we played football, it's not even a question. We win and it's not even close.
The 23-year-old who finished fifth in last year's NL Rookie of the Year voting says – besides himself – John Gant would probably be the best basketball player among the Cardinals pitching staff. But Dakota Hudson takes the prize as the worst.
"I mean I love (Hudson), but if you've seen him run it's not the most, it's not the prettiest thing," Flaherty says. "Watch him jog in from the outfield next time he comes out of the bullpen ... I love him, I always talk to him about it."
