BOSTON (KMOX) - It was a historic moment in the KMOX broadcast booth for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, as the son of a legendary St. Louis Blues broadcaster got to call a championship game just like his father.

John Kelly of Fox Sports Midwest was asked by the voice of the Blues, Chris Kerber to join the KMOX broadcast team and call the second period of every game in the Stanley Cup Final. Kelly is the son of Dan Kelly who called 16 Stanley Cup Finals, including in 1969 and 1970 the last time the Blues made it to the final round.

You can hear the introduction Kerber gave to Kelly and a few of his highlights in the video above. Kelly also talked to his new radio partner in analyst Joey Vitale about what Kerber's gesture means to him:

In three decades calling hockey games John Kelly has never been at the helm for a Stanley Cup Final. And because NBC and NBC Sports Network will provide exclusive TV coverage, the veteran broadcaster had expected to be a spectator for this series.

But Kerber approached him about the opportunity after the Blues beat the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Final.
