GLEN CARBON, Il. (KMOX) — A Highland, Illinois business owner is "lifting up" KMOX's Brett Blume -- both figuratively and literally. Jim Campbell owns Options HME -- he was listening during the We Bleed Blume blood drive Tuesday and learned Brett's having a *very* hard time with stairs, sometimes he can't use them at all.

Thursday, he surprised the Blumes by installing stairlifts for free.

"We put in two straight stairlifts. So he basically rides one down, gets off it on the landing, and can go out the front door if he chooses. Then gets on another stairlift and rides it up the steps, that way he doesn't have to climb on the steps."

Campbell says chair lifts, wheelchair ramps and other services Options HME offers gives people the boost they need to stay in their homes.

"I've had a lot of people in my family battle with cancer in the past and currently," Campbell told KMOX's Alex Degman. "I knew that we were in a position where we can help out. I've had people help me and my family members out in the past, so I felt it was something we could do."

Success of the #WeBleedBlume Blood Drive continues!! Jim Campbell of Options HME heard @caroldanielKMOX's interview with @brettblumekmox about how walking up the stairs took more than 1 hr. Today, he installed a chair lift in Brett's home, pro bono! https://t.co/qyZwStrFSK pic.twitter.com/Nr5LExUy1Y

Brett has been off the air for several months as he battles cancer and other illnesses. The We Bleed Blume Blood Drive on Tuesday netted nearly 80 units of blood, more than three times the amount of a *normal* Red Cross blood drive.

Carol Daniel sat down with Brett before the We Bleed Blume blood drive. You can listen to their conversation below:
