Michael and Leon Spinks are highlighted during Black History Month

Not only did one St. Louis family produce two world heavyweight boxing champions, both men grew up in one of St. Louis' most impoverished neighborhoods.

Leon Spinks defeated Muhammad Ali in 1978 to win his heavyweight belt.

Leon's brother Michael also won the heavyweight championship by defeating Larry Holmes in 1985.  Both Spinks brothers also won gold medals for boxing in the 1976 Olympics.  The brothers grew up in the Darst-Webbe low-income housing projects.
