ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — St. Louis Board of Aldermen president Lewis Reed is calling for more to be done to help the region's "most vulnerable" residents deal with the Polar Vortex.

With all of the talk of a city-county merger, he says now is the time for both entities to work "better together" to keep people warm during the cold snap.

Reed, who has no direct authority on the use of city facilities, says he's contacted both St. Louis mayor Lyda Krewson and county executive Steve Stenger.

He says to his knowledge there is no 24-hour, walk-in shelter service provided on a regular basis in the city of St. Louis.

Reed does say that adjustments have been made to temporarily set up Biddle House as a 24-hour shelter.
