UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOX) — You should be hearing the "clang, clang, clang" of the Delmar Loop trolley once again starting later today.
After six straight weekends of operation, the two trolleys currently in service were taken off-line over the past weekend for maintenance.
"We recognized some decrease in the braking rates," Loop Trolley executive director Kevin Barbeau told KMOX's Brett Blume. "Our maintenance team is doing a deep dive on the braking system."
He says rider safety is their top priority and now is the time to work out any bugs.
"In the winter months, ridership isn't going to be as strong, so we want to make sure we have time to fully address and inspect any vehicles here."
As for how things have been going to this point, Barbeau says ridership over the first month-and-a-half has been...
"Steady but not incredible," he admitted. "Certainly, on the free day we did in support of Small Business Saturday on November 24th, we had maximum capacity."
He says they'll release more comprehensive ridership information once they've completed the first three months of operation.
