MANCHESTER, Mo (KMOX) - Drive-thru ashing is underway outside a St. Louis County church.

It's a chance for people to take about three minutes in their car, get a prayer, and ash cross on their forehead or hand then be on their way. Reverend Jim Peich is outside this morning for Ash Wednedsay, the first day of Lent in the Christian faith, at Manchester United Methodist Church. He says he understands how busy people's lives are with jobs and other commitments.

"They're not always going to be able to make it to an Ash Wednesday service at the church," Piech says. "So we want to bring the chuch out to the community."

There will will be a traditional service at at the church tonight at 6:30 p.m.

300 people took part last year so Reverend Peich says it was an easy decision to do it again this year.

If you're interested, come to 14380 Manchester Road, just west of Highway 141. It's available today from 7-9 a.m., again from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., and then your last chance for a drive-thru blessing is from 4-6 p.m.

You do not have to be a member of Manchester United Methodist Church to take part.
