ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — With classes getting underway throughout the area, security is on the minds of parents, teachers and students.
Among the schools back in session today include St. Louis Public Schools, Affton, Mehlville, Parkway, and many others.
There's Kansas City area company that is offering a new way to protect students from an active shooter. It's called "Safe Defend" and it allows a school to be put on lockdown immediately.
"The school can put the entire building on lockdown with sirens and strobes, text and email alerts go out to staff, as well as law enforcement and any dispatch letting you know specifically which room is in crisis and where an officer needs to go inside the building." It also provides teachers with training and tools, including a baton, mace and a trauma kit so they treat any victims immediately.
